The Colona Police Department will increase its alcohol enforcement patrols for the remainder of October beginning Monday, according to a news release issued by Colona Police Chief Timothy Krebs.

The patrols are funded through a federal grant provided through the Illinois Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Division. The grant was awarded to Colona police last month.

Officers will make numerous traffic stops for all Illinois vehicle code violations in an effort to reduce the number of drunken drivers and reduce the fatalities caused by drunken drivers.
