Questions from Times readers: FROM LEFT: Diane McAnally, who has a son in the Navy heading for the Persian Gulf, asked the candidates about their stance on war in Iraq. Herman Bredar,of Davenport, asked the candidates about negative campaign TV commercials. Dr. Kelly Carroll, of Silvis, asked the candidates about providing affordable, quality health care for all.

1. Diane McAnally, Bettendorf: How do each of you think our nation should proceed in Iraq? How you would use the funding power of Congress to implement your agenda? Answer 4:45

2. Herman Bredar, Davenport: We are Americans first and party members second. Why do each of you have ads by your campaign and on behalf of your campaign that “trashes your opponent to no end?” Answer 5:18

3. Dr. Kelly Carroll, Silvis: What is your vision for Congress to assure affordable, quality health care for all, including those without insurance? Answer 5:20

4. Times Editorial Board: Iowa’s current Democrat Gov. Tom Vilsack and previous Republican Gov. Terry Branstad both have told the Times Editorial Board that immigrant labor is absolutely necessary for Iowa’s economy to grow. Given that, describe an immigration policy that will accommodate that need. What do we do with undocumented immigrants working in Iowa today? Answer 5:30
