National Merit Scholarship Program

About 16,000 high school students were named semifinalists in the 52nd annual National Merit Scholarship Program. More than 1.4 million juniors in 21,000 high schools entered the national competition.

These area students were named semifinalists:

IOWA

Bettendorf: Jonathan Buck and Katharine Sickels, both from Bettendorf High School.

Clinton: Thomas Deering, Clinton High School, and Luke Roling, Prince of Peace Catholic Academy and College Preparatory.

Davenport: Scott Copeland, Assumption High School; Alysa Bradley, Brendan Chambers and Ashley Petersen, all from Davenport Central High School.

DeWitt: Eric Marsh, Central Clinton High School.

Eldridge: Hannah Rochau, North Scott High School.

Muscatine: Austin Hancock, Muscatine High School.

Pleasant Valley: Candice Bellows, Katherine Coin, Emily Koenig, Clare McAndrews, Gordon Mueller, John Qian, Angela Rouse, Laura Suh and Anna Westlund, all from Pleasant Valley High School.

ILLINOIS

East Moline: Jixin Chen, United Township High School.

Geneseo: Brittney Kajdacsi, Geneseo High School.

Rock Island: Anita Ahuja, Alexandra Fields, Samantha Garrison and Joseph Newcomb, all Rock Island High School.
