Iowa football fans who are subscribers of Mediacom cable systems won’t miss Saturday’s game on television after all.

The cable company that serves more than 85 percent of the cable subscribers in the state of Iowa announced an agreement Wednesday that will allow the Hawkeyes’ 11 a.m. game against Purdue to be shown on the Mediacom Connections Channel, which is on Ch. 22 in the Quad-Cities.

The game is being broadcast nationally by ESPNU, a network not available on Mediacom systems in Iowa.

However, Mediacom is working to add the network to its digital and sports tiers in the near future. In exchange, ESPN is allowing the cable system to offer a “free preview’’ of ESPNU consisting of Saturday’s Iowa game.

In the future, it is likely fans would have to purchase the additional digital or sports tier to receive the growing number of games being assigned to ESPNU, a lineup that includes Iowa basketball games against Virginia Tech and Drake.

The company also is producing its own telecast of the Northern Iowa-Missouri State football game, which will air at 4 p.m. on Ch. 22.
