(Larry Fisher/Quad-City Times) A boat searches the Mississippi River on Thursday morning after an abandoned car was found on the I-280 bridge overnight.

Authorities will begin searching again this morning in the Mississippi River for someone who may have jumped from the Interstate 280 bridge. On Thursday, authorities were not able to find a driver who they think committed suicide by jumping from the bridge.

Rock Island County sheriff’s Lt. Gerry Bustos said an abandoned vehicle was found on the bridge about 5 a.m. Thursday. He said the department got in touch with the individual’s family and received information leading them to believe the driver committed suicide. He declined to release the person’s name or a description of the vehicle.

Boats from the sheriff’s department and Illinois Department of Natural Resources spent the day searching the river, stopping only at sundown.
