A Rock Island man who was convicted of shooting a man in 2004 is now wanted by police for a weekend shooting at the Century Woods housing complex.

Ricky Lee Childs Jr., 22, is charged in Rock Island County Circuit Court on counts of aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. He was not in custody Tuesday night.

Bond for Childs was set by a Rock Island County judge at $150,000. Rock Island police asked that anyone with information on Childs’ whereabouts call them at (309) 732-2677 or Crimestoppers at (309) 762-9500.

The recent shooting occurred about 4:15 a.m. Saturday at 4th Street and 14th Avenue, near Century Woods. A 28-year-old man was struck in the leg. The fleeing and eluding charge stems from an incident that occurred at 11th Street and 7th Avenue about 10:45 p.m. Sept. 20, when police say Childs fled from an officer who attempted to stop the vehicle the suspect was driving.

In 2004, Childs entered an Alford plea in Rock Island County Circuit Court to a felony count of aggravated discharge of a firearm in connection with the wounding of Tracy Antonio Howard in the parking lot of a convenience store in the 1500 block of 7th Avenue, Rock Island.

Under an Alford plea, the defendant does not admit to committing the act, but admits that sufficient evidence exists with which the prosecution likely could convince a judge or jury to find the defendant guilty.

Childs was sentenced to four years in prison, but he was released early.

In 2005, he pleaded guilty to a felony count of aggravated battery and was sentenced to three years in prison, but he was released early again.
