A former Davenport priest who was arrested last week and accused of violating his parole had his detention hearing delayed Tuesday.

The Rev. Richard Poster, 41, was sentenced to a year in federal prison on a charge of possessing child pornography in January 2004. He briefly worked for the Diocese of Davenport afterward as a custodian.

Poster allegedly violated the terms of his release by having contact with children, going near Buffalo Elementary School and masturbating while watching children, the U.S. Attorney’s office alleges.

Poster was to make an appearance Tuesday in U.S. District Court, Southern District of Iowa, but the hearing was continued. A new date for the hearing has not been scheduled.

Poster remained in custody Tuesday.
