A Genesis Medical Center anesthesiologist was found dead of an apparent suicide in the physicians’ sleeping area Monday morning by a fellow doctor.

Davenport police responded to a call at 8:37 a.m. from Genesis Medical Center-East Rusholme Street after a doctor found the body of Jon Faeth, who appeared to be sleeping. Police are awaiting autopsy results to confirm the cause of death. Cpl. Martin Lopez said it did not appear foul play was involved, and the police department is treating it as a suicide after finding a suicide note.

Craig Cooper, a spokesman for Genesis, said Faeth, 52, of Bettendorf had worked for Genesis since 1995. He would not confirm that it was a suicide, but he said the death was unexpected and remains under police investigation. Faeth was on call Monday, although Cooper said he did not know how long he had been at the hospital before his body was found.

The hospital is not conducting its own investigation into the matter, Cooper said.
