MUSCATINE, Iowa — Even though Riverbend Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Muscatine is slated to voluntarily surrender its license Thursday, the six patients who live there may not have to move.

David Werning, public information officer for the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals, or DIA, said Monday that a promising application for a license for that facility has been submitted to the state by another company.

“The staff here is 99.9 percent sure that the facility will not close its doors,” he said.

He said two more pieces of information are needed from the party that applied for a license, whom he would not identify.

“It’s a matter of the individual or corporation who is applying for the license to get the additional information to us,” Werning said.
