Aledo, Ill.

Bluegrass music festival — The 34th annual Barnes Family Bluegrass Music Festival will be Friday through Sunday at Mercer County Fairgrounds, Aledo, Ill. Bands begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday, 12:30 and 6:30 p.m. Saturday and 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Admission is $12 for Friday, $15 Saturday and $12 Sunday. Weekend passes are $25.

Bettendorf

First Fridays — First Fridays, an organization for business professionals, will host a “Coming Art” party from 6-10 p.m. Friday at Isle of Capri Hotel and Conference Center, 1777 Isle Parkway, Bettendorf. The work of contemporary Quad-City artists will be featured at the event, sponsored by the African American Network Group at Deere & Co. and Rock Island Arsenal Women in Defense group.

Colona, Ill.

Dinner and wine — Trinity Health Foundation will host “Sunset in the Vineyard” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lavender Crest Winery, Colona, Ill. Tickets are $65 per person or $125 per couple for a three-course gourmet dinner and wine. Proceeds benefit Trinity’s Pathway Hospice program. To order tickets, call (309) 779-2232.

Davenport

Benefit — A benefit for cancer victim Heather Kriner of Blue Grass, Iowa, will be at noon Saturday at the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 235, 4401 W. Locust St., Davenport, with food, drink, a disc jockey, raffles and auctions. Registration for a poker run will be from 9-11 a.m. at the Eagles lodge. Donations may be made in care of Kriner at Wells Fargo Bank, Davenport.

Book signing — A book signing by Herman Miller historian John Berry will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium at Figge Art Museum, 225 W. 2nd St., Davenport.

Purse luncheon — A Power of the Purse luncheon will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Davenport Country Club, 25500 Valley Drive, Pleasant Valley, Iowa. More than 80 designer purses will be sold during a silent auction. Tickets are $35 for general admission and $100 for patrons, who will be listed in the program and can preview purses the day of the event. Proceeds benefit the Women’s Fund of the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend and Variety, a children’s charity. To register, call (563) 326-2840 or go to www.cfgrb.org.

Long Grove, Iowa

 Fall festival — A fall festival will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 3-4 at Dan Nagle Walnut Grove Pioneer Village, 18817 290th St., Long Grove. Friends of the village will dress in pioneer clothing and demonstrate blacksmithing, pottery, quilting, spinning, Dutch oven cooking and more. There will be a petting zoo, pony rides, kids games, crafts, food and drink.

Maquoketa, Iowa

Monarch madness — Monarch butterflies will be tagged and children will make crafts at 1 p.m. Saturday in the butterfly garden at Hurstville Interpretive Center, 18670 63rd St., Maquoketa.

Rock Island

Pancake breakfast — The Rock Island Templar Chapter of the Order of DeMolay will host a pancake breakfast from 6 a.m. to noon Saturday and Sunday at Masonic Temple, 420 18th St., Rock Island. Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for ages 4-10, free for under 4.

Thomson, Ill.

Run/walk — The 12th annual Min’s Mississippi Walk/Run will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday as part of Thomson Melon Days festivities. Registration is $13, from 7-7:45 a.m. race day. Proceeds go the Melinda Ann Wilkinson Scholarship Fund. The race begins on West Main Street.
