‘Raffle My Ride’ to help raise funding

You could drive in style this fall after Bettendorf Community Schools Foundation raffles a new 2006 red Pontiac Solstice sponsored by Piehl motors.

Through the “Raffle My Ride” project, someone also will win an 8-foot Stanton pool table sponsored by Pleasure Pools and Spas, and a 42-inch Sony LCD rear-projection TV sponsored by Automated Lifestyles.

The Solstice is fully loaded with five-speed automatic transmission, leather interior, chrome-plated aluminum wheels, Onstar service, Monsoon premium audio system, six-disc CD changer with MP3 player, XM satellite radio, a power package and cruise control.

You may see the Solstice displayed around town when the foundation holds ticket-selling events, including cookouts at Bettendorf home football games. Raffle tickets are $10 each. The drawing will be held Oct. 27, at TouVelle Stadium, Bettendorf.

The mission of the foundation is to enhance the educational opportunities for students through the development and distribution of funds. Last year, the foundation granted money to fund 10 projects totaling almost $9,000. Since 2002, the foundation has granted more than $25,000 to Bettendorf Community Schools.

Each year, the foundation awards up to $500 for the John Finnessy Excellence in Education Award to the most innovative project funded by the foundation during the previous school year. The foundation sponsors the district’s Visiting Scholar Program and also administers five scholarships that total up to $4,000 each year for Bettendorf High School graduating seniors.
