The judge in the Sarah Kolb murder trial said the case is ready to proceed and will go to sentencing as scheduled next month.
Kolb, 18, of Milan, Ill., was convicted in February on two counts of first-degree murder and concealing the murder of her classmate, Adrianne Reynolds, 16, of East Moline. Her first trial in Rock Island County ended with the jury voting 11-1 in favor of conviction, which led to a mistrial.
Her co-defendant, Cory Gregory, also 18, of Moline, pleaded guilty to the murder and concealment and was sentenced earlier this month to the maximum sentence under the plea: 40 years for murder and five years for dismemberment.
A second murder charge was dismissed in exchange for his plea.
Kolb faces a maximum of 60 years for murder and five years for the concealment. Both teens must serve 100 percent of the murder sentences while the dismemberment sentence qualifies for various reductions, including day-for-day credit for time served.
After numerous delays in Kolb’s case, Rock Island County Circuit Judge James Teros announced Thursday that sentencing will proceed on Aug. 18. He said he met early Thursday with attorneys on both sides for a status hearing in the case and said all parties are prepared for sentencing.
