A 48-year-old Little League coach was arrested for allegedly slapping an 18-year-old umpire during a baseball game, East Moline police said Thursday.

Daniel Vice was arrested for battery, but he had not been charged in Rock Island County Circuit Court as of mid-afternoon Thursday. The incident happened at 8:36 p.m. Wednesday at Northeast Park.

According to police, Vice was unhappy with the umpire’s decision on a play in which one of his players was called out. He allegedly slapped the umpire in front of several witnesses, including some youngsters, said Lt. John Reynolds of the East Moline Police Department.

Reynolds said the umpire’s face turned red and there may have been some swelling, but the teenager was otherwise uninjured.

More details of this story will be published Friday in the Quad-City Times and on www.qctimes.com.
