A second Davenport man was arrested Thursday in connection with the shooting death of 24-year-old Tristan James Menzl outside a Heatherton Drive apartment building, police said.

Delbert Antonio Blake, 19, of 1209 N. Gaines St., is charged with first-degree murder in connection with his participation in the events that led to the death of Menzl, Davenport police Capt. David Struckman said.

Blake was being held Thursday night in the Scott County Jail on $250,000 bond, Struckman added.

Another Davenport man, Canares D. Ivy, 28, of 3021 Heatherton Drive, was arrested July 6 by Rock Island police on a fugitive from justice warrant out of Davenport charging him with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon. After he was transferred the next day to the Scott County Jail, he was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

Police responded to 3424 Heatherton Drive at 1:13 a.m. July 5. Menzl was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the complaint and affidavit filed by Davenport police detective Mark Dinneweth, Blake got into a fight with Menzl. Blake then summoned Ivy’s aid.

Witnesses saw Ivy with a gun and saw him shoot Menzl, according to court records.

After the shooting, Ivy and Blake hid the pistol in an apartment at the building and left together in a vehicle, according to Dinneweth’s affidavit.

Under Iowa law, first-degree murder carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison.
