(The Associated Press) Vice President Dick Cheney is coming to eastern Iowa to campaign for Mike Whalen, Republican candidate for Congress in Iowa's 1st District.

BREAKING NEWS: Vice President Dick Cheney will be in eastern Iowa to campaign for Republican congressional hopeful Mike Whalen, an aide to the Bettendorf entrepreneur confirmed Monday. The vice president will be the second top-level Bush administration official to travel to the district to campaign on Whalen’s behalf.

Whalen is running against Democrat Bruce Braley of Waterloo in Iowa’s 1st congressional district, one of the most closely watched in the country and already, half a dozen national political figures have come to the district to campaign for one or the other of the candidates or have committed to do so.

White House political chief Karl Rove was in Waterloo on Monday to raise money for Whalen.
