Davenport firefighters continued to investigate Sunday the cause of a blaze that heavily damaged a 106-year-old house at 1711 Grand Ave.

The white wood-frame home was split into four apartments, three of which were occupied. The fire left about a half-dozen people without homes. Two single occupants, a man and a woman, were not home when the fire broke out about 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Another woman, her two young daughters and her boyfriend were at home and escaped when they noticed smoke coming through the vents.  The American Red Cross offered help to the displaced residents of the building just south of Locust Street.

A damage estimate was not available Sunday on the blaze that took firefighters about two hours to extinguish.
