A Nantucket-style home built on a hill overlooking a valley with a natural stream in Bettendorf is one of the sites you can see on Saturday, June 17, during a garden tour sponsored by Meyer Landscape & Design, Moline, as a fundraiser for the Quad-City Symphony Orchestra Association.
This is the fifth year Meyer has sponsored a tour of its landscapes, but it’s the first year it has partnered with the symphony.
Nantucket is an island off the coast of Massachusetts where many of the homes are made of cedar shakes or siding that weathers to a silvery gray, in keeping with the windswept landscape, with sea grass and cranberry bogs.
The Bettendorf home features a courtyard driveway in which the concrete is inset with Purington paver brick and a polymeric sand that sets up hard like mortar to create a pattern, Kurt Meyer, who designed the landscape, says.
The courtyard is enclosed with custom-built white lattice and planted with boxwood and hydrangeas. Boxwood is used elsewhere in the yard, too, planted in a pattern with other low-growing perennials to create a design.
The backyard includes a row of Kwansan cherry trees trimmed to form a kind of privacy wall.
