Justin Anderson doesn’t see the world through everyone else’s eyes. He has Crazy Eyes, his new media production company in Bettendorf.
Crazy Eyes Productions specializes in graphics-based broadcast advertising, but Anderson doesn’t want to limit himself.
He says he can do video, photo, anime, commercial spots, promotional DVDs, music videos, multi-camera live events, original TV programming, Web design and graphic design.
If that sounds ambitious, it’s because Anderson is out to prove himself.
He first picked up a camera as a college freshman majoring in graphic design and fine art. He used his job on campus security to film a COPS spoof.
The project cost him his security job but landed him a wide fan base on campus. Soon after, it got him a job at Victory Enterprises as head of TV production.
“When I got hired, I had a lot of ideas, but I didn’t know how to do a lot of things. So I found a bunch of books and I studied them and I did a lot of stuff on my own. Everything I can do now, I know because I’ve actually done it,” said Anderson, who quit school to work for Victory.
At the age of 21, he decided it was time to strike out on his own.
He says one thing sets him apart is that he designs and produces every part of the finished product.
“I don’t want stock footage or some pre-set design. My animation, motion graphics, video, they’re all original. I can make commercials with national level quality and give it a local flair that helps a business stand out,” he said.
His attention to the Quad-City area has helped him win many fans locally.
Anderson developed an idea for a TV series featuring local bands and what they go through trying to make it. He shot the pilot episode and brought the idea to Mediacom.
Fred Klauke, production associate at Mediacom, said, “When we saw the potential in his idea and the production quality of that pilot, we suggested maybe he could take this thing statewide.”
The pilot episode featured the Quad-City band Katalina, which Anderson also shot a music video for.
Terry Johnson, the band’s singer, said, “I think they get a glimpse of us as people as opposed to seeing us on stage as performers.”
