Bettendorf

n Volunteers — The Mississippi Valley Directors of Volunteers in Agencies, or DOVIA, will hold its holiday meeting at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Bettendorf Public Library with entertainment by the Quad-Cities Juggling Club. New members and guests are welcome and reservations are required by noon today. Lunch is available for $8 with chicken dumpling soup, bread basket, cranberry salad and cookies. New members who pay membership dues that day can purchase lunch for $5. Bring a new unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots or a food pantry item. To make a reservation, call (309) 796-0512.

n Toy donations — Stader Chiropractic, 2400 18th St., Bettendorf, will give free chiropractic care this week in exchange for a new, unwrapped toy as a donation to Toys for Tots. To schedule a free visit, call (563) 355-2020.

Davenport

n AIDS — The AIDS Project Quad-Cities and Rock Island County Council on Addictions will hold a recognition event celebrating World Aids Day at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at River City Music Experience, 131 W. 2nd St., Davenport. The event will feature Sen. Mike Jacobs, D-East Moline, as speaker and a Reader’s Theater presentation, “A Walk in MY Shoes.”

n Music — The German American Heritage Center will have its annual Christmas Sing at 7 p.m. Dec. 8 at the center, 712 W. 2nd St., Davenport. The event features familiar Christmas carols sung in German. Participants are asked to RSVP by Thursday so enough music sheets will be available at the event. Call  (563) 322-8844.

n Singers — The Wisconsin Singers will perform “Let’s Go to the Movies,” a show featuring music from the last 40 years of American film, at 7 p.m. Friday at Davenport North High School Holzworth Auditorium. The performers are a group of collegiate singers, dancers and instrumentalists. Tickets are $10 and available at the door.

East Moline

n Skating — Skate City QCA will host a “Napoleon Dynamite” party from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday at 1140 Avenue of the Cities, East Moline. The event will feature chances to win “Napoleon Dynamite” prizes, a dance contest, tot toss and stacking contests, Uncle Rico’s football toss, voting for Pedro and tater tot baskets for 50 cents. Milan, Ill.

n Auction — The Zonta Club of the Quad-Cities will hold its annual holiday auction at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Milan Community Center. The auction is a fundraiser to support service projects including the First Day Fund and college scholarships.

Moline

n Music — The Lynne Arriale Trio, featuring jazz pianist Lynne Arriale, will perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Deere & Co. Administrative Center auditorium, One John Deere Place, Moline. The trio, which is taking part in the Quad-City Arts Visiting Artist Series, will give a free one-hour informal performance and a question-and-answer session at the conclusion of the program.

Rock Island

n Movie —A free showing of “Rock Island Trail” will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Rocket Theater, 224 19th St., Rock Island. A reception before the movie will be from 6-7 p.m. The movie stars Forrest Tucker, Adele Mara, Adrian Booth, Bruce Cabot and Chill Wills.
