Kerry Tucker said he and Terry Tilka, owner of the Rock Island Brewing Co., had the same idea at almost the same time in January — to get local musicians together for a benefit concert for tsunami victims.

"It was so terrifying to see the results," said Tucker, a member of several local bands. "It was heartbreaking to see all these families (torn apart). I know we have benefits here and there's always good causes and there's always loss involved, but the loss here was so astronomical that there was a feeling of being helpless about the situation or thinking a little bit can mean a big difference to someone else."

Two of the bands that Tucker plays in, The Infectious Mr. Wang and Einstein's Sister, are among the groups performing in the benefit.

"We haven't broken up, we're just being very selective about gigs," Tucker said of Einstein's Sister.

Money raised from the concert will go toward Doctors Without Borders. When the benefit was first organized, Tucker said, Doctors Without Borders said they had more than enough funds for tsunami victims, and that any money raised for that group would go elsewhere in the world.

"A couple of weeks ago they changed their minds," Tucker said. "It was overwhelming as far as how much medical attention was still needed."

Besides the donation for admission, several of the groups performing that night that will be selling merchandise will donate the money to the benefit.
