While Illinois is considered totally infested, parts of Iowa are still seeing JBs for the first time.

Iowa State University/Scott County Extension horticulturist Duane Gissel reported the first sighting of Japanese beetles on the morning of June 29, and by that afternoon his office was flooded with calls from clients.

Most reports were from areas where Japanese beetles have more recently arrived and residents are not familiar with the pest, such as Blue Grass, western Davenport and Eldridge.

The current, known distribution of Japanese beetles in Iowa includes 37 of the state's 99 counties.
