Veterans Day Celebration and Mass — 9 a.m., Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy, 602 17th Ave., East Moline. Flag dedication ceremony followed by Mass. At a candlelighting ceremony, each branch of the military will be recognized and there will be a song and slide show. A reception will follow in Cleary Hall hosted by the eighth-grade class.
Davenport Veterans Day parade — 10 a.m., Centennial Building, Davenport. Parade forms at 9 a.m. at Centennial Building and Scott County Jail parking lots and on Western Avenue between 4th and 5th streets. Parade route will be 4th and Western south to 3rd Street; east on 3rd to Main Street, south on Main to 2nd St.; west on 2nd to Scott Street and north on Scott to 4th Street. After the parade, there will be a ceremony in front of the Scott County Courthouse.
East Moline Veterans Day Ceremony — 11 a.m., Ninth Street Commons, East Moline.
Hero Street Veterans Day ceremony — 11 a.m., Hero Street Memorial Park, Silvis, Ill.
Milan Veterans Day ceremony — 11 a.m., Milan American Legion Post No. 569, 515 W. 1st Ave., Milan, Ill. Retired and active military personnel, Scouts, government and public officials and police and firefighters are invited to the ceremony, followed by a flag retirement ceremony, a light lunch and conversation.
Veterans luncheon —
11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Cosgrove Dining Hall, St. Ambrose University, Davenport. Cafeteria luncheon for veterans, faculty, staff and guests. Participants will receive a yellow ribbon to commemorate the day.
American Legion — Noon to 5 p.m., American Legion Post 26, 702 W. 35th St., Davenport. Featuring $1 chili and hot dogs. Contact: (563) 355-5012.
National Cemetery Veterans Day service — 1 p.m., Arsenal Island. Speakers include U.S. Rep. Phil Hare, D-Ill., and Maj. Gen. Yves Fontaine. Contact: (309) 782-7746.
Trinity Lutheran School
program — 1 p.m., Trinity Lutheran Church, 1122 W. Central Park Ave., Davenport. School band will play and students will sing and perform to honor veterans. Students will share winning essays on the topic, “What I want to say to veterans.” Veterans and families are welcome to stay for reception after the program.
German American Heritage Center — 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., German American Heritage Center & Museum, 712 W. 2nd St. Davenport. Veterans can visit exhibits free of charge. Contact: www.gahc.org.
Tribute to Veterans —
1:15 p.m., St. Paul the Apostle School, 916 Rusholme St., Davenport. School will honor veterans with a celebration including prayer, posting of the colors, Pledge of Allegiance and national anthem sung by Steve Harvey, a veteran who served in Afghanistan. Students in the fourth-grade class will perform a musical tribute and eighth-grade students will thank and give gifts to veterans.
Honor Flight Discussion —
2 p.m., Palmer Hills Retirement, 2617 Maplecrest Road, Bettendorf. George Finch will discuss his recent trip to Washington, D.C., as part of the Honor Flight for World War II veterans. Refreshments. Free. Contact: (563) 332-5955
Presentation: History of the Army and Navy — 2-3 p.m., Rogalski Center, St. Ambrose University, Davenport. A presentation of the history of the Army and Navy.
Veterans Administration Presentation — 3-4 p.m., Rogalski Center, St. Ambrose University, Davenport. A representative from the Veterans Administration will give an interactive presentation that focuses on veterans issues, plus tips for faculty and staff on how best to work with veterans.
History of the Marines and Air Force — 4-5 p.m., Rogalski Center, St. Ambrose University, Davenport. A presentation of the history of the Marine Corps and Air Force.
Veterans Day Spectacular — 7:30 p.m., Galvin Fine Arts Center, St. Ambrose University, Davenport. The event is collaboration between the SAU Music Department, MAVO (SAU Military and Veterans Organization) and SAU Theater Department.
